Should They Save Him?

While reading this article the word that popped into my head was yes! Yes that they should save this polar bear cub. Even though it is going to be bred in captivity at least its will be alive. Right? Why would you want to even kill this polar bear cub because of what is going on in the world today. Many of the Polar Bears are dying out in the wild, due to global warming. They are on the endangered animals list! If they are on the endangered animal list shouldn't there be some law protecting these animals from purposely getting killed? Since his mother ignored Knut (baby polar bear) at birth, the zoo officials decided to raise him in their own care. But the animal rights activists believe that it is wrong for a polar bear cub to be bred by humans, so it must be put to death at once. Frank Albrecht, one of the animal rights activists said, "The zoo must kill the bear. Feeding by hand is not species appropriate but a gross violation of animal protection laws." I know that it is not the "right" thing to do because it will not be like other polar bears out in the wild, but why add on to the number of polar bears that are dying. The thing that I do not get, is why they want this polar bear to be euthanized. I mean do they start an argument everytime an animal is put into the zoo. As long as he is healthy why can't he live? If they are Animal Rights Activists aren't they supposed to be protecting the lives of animals, not killing them?I respect that the zoo is doing everything that they can to help Knut live as "normal" a life as possible.
