Electric Cars

Before spring break we watched a documentary about electric cars during chemistry. I thought that this video was very interesting because these cars are very practical and they run like all the rest of the cars on the road except that they are powered by the sun. They are also enviormentally friendly which is a major plus. Another positive point about this car is that you will not have to spend money on gasoline anymore because it is powered by the sun. With the rising gas prices it would save us alot of money which could be put to something else. But the sad thing is that General Motors stopped manufactoring these cars. They took back all the electric cars that they sold to the public even though there was nothing wrong with them! So this started a controversy between the general public and all of the car companies that were selling electric cars. The people were shocked to see that the car companies were taking the cars to the garbage dump where they would be smashed and piled on top of one another. I thought this was crazy because the makers of these cars put alot of thought into designing these enviormentally friendly cars. So why would they smash them when they were put into the market for a short period of time. It was strange to see brand new/used cars being put into the shreaders to become worthless pieces of metal. I think that we should bring back the electric cars because they are beneficial to us and the enviorment. Hopefully in the future the car companies will remake these cars and kept them for us to use. This way we can once again reduce the amount of toxins that are being put into the air everday.

STOP GLOBAL WARMING!!!

Global Warming is a huge problem in our world today! It will affect our futures if we do not try to prevent this world wide issue from becoming any worse. One of the main contributor's to this problem is the amount of toxins that are being put into the air. Many of the toxins are coming from factories that make items that we need in our everyday lives. Another factor that ties into global warming is our rapidly increasing population growth. As the population grows we need to make room for houses. So the downfall to this is we say goodbye to trees and forests and hello to gajillions of houses. I think that it is very sad that we need to cut down forests to make room for buildings and shopping malls because we are really also taking away an enviorment for the ANIMALS to live in. We need to know that we are not the only ones living on earth. We share it with animals that depend on their surroundings for food and shelter. But when we take that away from them where will they go? What will they do? Over the years different species are either becoming endangered or extinct. For example, the fresh water dolphin found in Baiji, China has recently been labeled extinct in December. We have to do something about global warming now because we are risking many lives. Another important point about the forests that we are cutting down is that the trees do take out some of the carbondioxide in the air which contributes to global warming. We need to stop cutting down the trees! I am kind of scared to see what our future will be like because of the global warming issue. What can we do to prevent global warming? Two of the biggies is of course, planting new trees and RECYCLING!

Free Hugs (Comment to Sean's Blog)

While watching this video from the start I was like hrmm... that's interesting a man is holding a sign with the words "Free Hugs"... But as the video went on I thought wow, this guy loves openly and that is something very special. I am very sure that all of the people that he hugged throughout the making of this video was very happy after they hugged this man. It feels good to be hugged because you know that someone cares about you, which then makes you happy. But when the "free hugs" were banned I thought that was very strange because I would not think that anyone would be bothered by this man because he seems harmless. He did not even do anything wrong. It was not like he was threatening anybody right? What is wrong with giving someone a hug? I thought that it was really neat how the makers of this video showed how many people signed this petition about banning free hugs. It shows that people care enough about giving hugs that they would sign a petition to stop people from banning free hugs. This man was taking time out of his life to make people happy, and I think that that is awsome. Without love what type of world would we be living in?

MAN EATS METAL

I was watching this show on animal planet about the ten most extreme sharks and this man showed up during the show, as a human that is like a garbage disposal! He is like a garbage disposal because he can eat METAL and GLASS! The biggest piece of metal that he has ever eaten was an AIRPLANE! Along with this huge machine he has also eaten bicycles and trolley's! I don't even know how anyone can do this! I mean it is crazy, seriously. I wanted to find out more about this man because he was only on for a short period of time on the show. I learned that his name is Michel Lotito, and he lives in Villars De Lans, France. Another crazy fact about this man is that his stomach lining is twice as thick as a regular person! Technically his stomach can digest anything, I mean it's strong enough to digest metal. He was put into the "Guiness Book of World Records" because of the amazing feats that he has been through. He is actually really lucky because he does become full after eating metal. So he will probably never go hungry because the majority of the people in this world can not digest or even eat metal.

Should They Save Him?

While reading this article the word that popped into my head was yes! Yes that they should save this polar bear cub. Even though it is going to be bred in captivity at least its will be alive. Right? Why would you want to even kill this polar bear cub because of what is going on in the world today. Many of the Polar Bears are dying out in the wild, due to global warming. They are on the endangered animals list! If they are on the endangered animal list shouldn't there be some law protecting these animals from purposely getting killed? Since his mother ignored Knut (baby polar bear) at birth, the zoo officials decided to raise him in their own care. But the animal rights activists believe that it is wrong for a polar bear cub to be bred by humans, so it must be put to death at once. Frank Albrecht, one of the animal rights activists said, "The zoo must kill the bear. Feeding by hand is not species appropriate but a gross violation of animal protection laws." I know that it is not the "right" thing to do because it will not be like other polar bears out in the wild, but why add on to the number of polar bears that are dying. The thing that I do not get, is why they want this polar bear to be euthanized. I mean do they start an argument everytime an animal is put into the zoo. As long as he is healthy why can't he live? If they are Animal Rights Activists aren't they supposed to be protecting the lives of animals, not killing them?I respect that the zoo is doing everything that they can to help Knut live as "normal" a life as possible.

If Everyone Cared

I wrote about this music video in my commonplace book and I wanted to put it up on my blog. I really like this music video because of the interesting facts that make this inspirational. I believe that it does not matter how big or how small of a crowd there is but how deep a person's faith will go to fight for a cause. Anybody can make a difference! It only starts with one person. I especially liked the clip in this music video with the woman, Betty Williams, who was fighting for a cause by forming a Peace March. But when protesters came, their Peace March was broken. The best part of this clip is that Betty Williams did not give up! She formed another march and it was so big that protesters could not interfere. While watching this video it somewhat reminded of a scene in the movie "Hotel Rwanda". In this scene Paul (hotel manager) was thanking Jack (camera man) for shooting footage of the massacre that was going outside of the hotel. But then Jack , "I think if people see this footage, they'll say Oh, my God, that's horrible. And then they'll go on eating their dinners." This quote is linked to this music video, which is called "If Everyone Cared" because if people cared enough about what was going on they would have tried to make a difference. It is kind of sad about how true that quote is because many people will turn away from what is happening and go on with their lives as if they know nothing. I believe that we would be living in a much better world if people took advantage of an oppotunity that is put infront of them.
